Joey Veerman is very much in the interest of Atalanta, so reports Corriere dello Sport Wednesday morning. The sc Heerenveen midfielder is working on a very strong season and has played on the radar of the Serie A club with his game. Veerman still has a contract in Friesland until mid-2024 and must cost six million euros according to the Italian newspaper.

Veerman is an indispensable link at Heerenveen this season and, with his seven goals and nine assists, is decisive in the Frisian team’s attacking game. He is therefore praised for his qualities in Italy. “Joey Veerman, Ryan Gravenberch and Teun Koopmeiners are the best midfielders in the Eredivisie”, it sounds. “He has insight, intensity, power, a good shot from a distance and is able to apply good pressure. Veerman is the total midfielder of Heerenveen. He guarantees quality and dynamism.”

At the beginning of March Veerman left opposite ESPN already know how open to the next step in his career. “I would like to play for the prizes. I would be very nice to be in the top of the Netherlands”, the midfielder told Kees Kwakman at the time. “Secretly it is also a dream to end up in Spanish football. If there really are clubs that are interested and it eventually goes wrong with the amount, then I would be disappointed yes.”

Heerenveen took over Veerman in the summer of 2019 for 550,000 euros from FC Volendam at the closing of the transfer window. Veerman thus said goodbye to the village where he grew up after fifteen years. In Heerenveen he has become a permanent fixture within the team of trainer Johnny Jansen, where he usually forms the midfield with Lasse Schöne and Tibor Halilovic. He has so far ignored various calls for the selection of the Dutch Juniors, as he wanted to spend his time in international periods differently for private reasons.
