At the Italian national team, at least one player has tested positive for the corona virus in the run-up to the Nations League game against the Netherlands on Wednesday evening. Stephan El Shaarawy has contracted the corona virus, it was confirmed at a press conference on Tuesday evening. There were two doubts within the selection of Italy, media previously reported.

On Tuesday, the selection of Italy underwent a final corona test before the game against the Orange. Then it was buzzing with rumors around the Italian camp. A press moment that was scheduled for 6:00 pm was postponed to 7:30 pm. Corriere dello Sport reported that two players were infected and they were tested again to be sure.

According to UEFA regulations, thirteen available players, including one goalkeeper, are sufficient to allow an international match to take place and thus the match in Bergamo seems to be able to continue. Because El Shaarawy immediately went into self-isolation according to the protocol, the international match should not be endangered. Another possibility is that the Italian government imposes a quarantine obligation on the other internationals and the international match is still canceled.

The team doctor from Italy has announced that it is ‘a low positive value’ of the corona virus. According to his lecture, this could still be a false positive test. El Shaarawy and the selection of national coach Roberto Mancini are meanwhile awaiting the result of the second test.

The game between the Orange and Italy will be played on Wednesday-evening at 8.45 PM in the Stadio Atleti Azzurri d’Italia in Bergamo. The Orange has to do without the suspended Marten de Roon. Italy is the leader in Group I with five points from three matches; Orange and Poland follow with four runs.
