Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting remains loyal to Bayern Munich. The German champion will mention on Friday that the attacker’s contract will be extended until the summer of 2023. The commitment of Robert Lewandowski’s stand-in was valid until June 30 and Bayern has now decided to continue the collaboration. Choupo-Moting was taken over from Paris Saint-Germain in October last year.

“We are happy that Maxim is still associated with Bayern for two more seasons,” technical director Hasan Salihamidzic said on the club site on Friday. “He is an important player who performed well last season and scored important goals. Maxim is a versatile player with experience, good technique and a nose for the goal. He is also very important for the atmosphere in the dressing room. I I am sure that Maxim will be important for Bayern in the pursuit of success in the next two seasons,” said the satisfied driver.

Choupo-Moting says he is ‘proud’ of the contract extension at Bayern. “This is a special club, the number one in Germany and one of the best clubs in the world. My first year here was great, on and off the pitch. I want to reach the cup final in Berlin with Bayern and win the Champions League.” Choupo Motiing finished his first year in Munich with 9 goals in 32 games in all competitions. As a replacement for the injured Robert Lewandowski, the 53-time Cameroon international scored in both matches against Paris Saint-Germain in the quarter-finals of the Champions League. However, it turned out not to be enough to prevent shutdown.

Bayern’s decision to move forward with Choupo-Moting does not appear to be good news for Joshua Zirkzee. The Dutch attacker returns to Munich after a not very successful rental period at Parma. Lewandowski is above the pecking order at Bayern in terms of strikers and Choupo-Moting seems to remain the stand-in of the Polish top scorer for the time being. It is not yet known what the new trainer Julian Nagelsmann plans to do with Zirkzee.
