The stadiums in the Eredivisie and Keuken Kampioen Division may only be filled for two-thirds until September. This was announced by outgoing Prime Minister Mark Rutte at the press conference on Monday. The decision leads to great disappointment at the clubs and the KNVB, which had hoped for full stadiums from 13 August.

Initially, the outgoing cabinet announced that the stadiums could be completely filled at the start of the new season. After the rising corona figures, new measures were introduced until August 13, which means that the stadiums may only be filled to 67 percent. On Monday, the cabinet decided to extend that measure until September.

“This is again a serious disappointment for everyone in football,” write the KNVB, Eredivisie and Keuken Kampioen Division. “We do everything in our power to minimize risk. Our strict protocols and Testing for Access in football are very effective in ensuring the health and safety of our public. This mitigation measure is purely for the stage. After all, we are already going through the one and a half meters with a two-thirds occupancy rate.”

The clubs and the football association hope to be able to play with full stadiums again from September. “In September, everyone had the opportunity to receive their second vaccination shot. The infections are decreasing rapidly and hospital admissions are stabilizing. It is expected that we will then be able to scale up to a hundred percent audience in the stadiums. We will also do this.” to the cabinet in talks we will have in the coming weeks.”
