There is still great uncertainty about Christian Atsu’s situation. According to reports on Tuesday, the Ghanaian had been pulled alive from the rubble after the earthquake in Turkey and Syria. On Wednesday afternoon, however, his manager reports on Twitter that Atsu is still missing.
Several sources confirmed last Tuesday that Atsu had been found alive under the rubble. However, his manager, Nana Sechere, announced on Twitter on Wednesday that the Hatayspor footballer has not yet been found. The previous reports about Atsu’s fate therefore seem to be incorrect. “Following yesterday’s update from the club that Christian had been rescued alive from the rubble, we have yet to confirm Christian’s current whereabouts. As you can imagine, this continues to be a terrible time for his family. We are doing everything we can to locate Christian,” Sechere wrote.

Atsu’s club Hatayspor has also not been able to make contact with the player. His trainer, Volkan Demirel, made an urgent appeal to avoid miscommunication. “Please do not write that he survived without being sure that he survived. The families are torn between hope, sorrow and pain. There is no news yet,” said Demirel
Mustafa Özat, Hatayspor’s press officer, reported to reliable Turkish media last Tuesday that Atsu had been found alive and safe. “Christian was pulled from the rubble with injuries. Unfortunately, our sporting director Taner Savut is still under the rubble.” The Ghana Football Association also reported that Atsu had been rescued.
