The Ministry of Sports in China bans football players from the national team from tattooing. They are also ‘advised’ to have existing tattoos removed. With this, the Chinese government wants to ‘set a good example for society’.

The Chinese government has announced that players will be banned from the Chinese national team if they get tattoos. Players who already have tattoos will be asked to have them removed or cover them initially. In addition, clubs have been asked not to attract players with tattoos anymore. The ban follows previous orders to Zhang Linpeng to hide his tattoos. The defender of Guangzhou plays in both the Chinese Super League and the national team.

With more and more famous players getting tattoos, the Ministry of Sports in China has taken steps to put a stop to this. “It is strictly forbidden for the national team and the Under-23 to get new tattoos and those who already have them are even advised to remove them,” the ministry said in a statement. “If there are special circumstances that the team agrees to, players should hide them during practices and games.”
