John Terry returns to his great love Chelsea. The former center back of the Blues reports via his Twitter account on Wednesday that he will have an advisory role in the youth academy of the Champions League winner. In addition, Terry will regularly provide training sessions and closely follow players from the Chelsea academy in their development. Chelsea have now officially confirmed the news of Terry’s return.

“I am delighted to announce that I am coming home,” Terry said on his social media channels on Wednesday. “I will start my role on a part-time basis early next month. The flexibility is crucial for both myself and the academy as it allows me to continue and develop my own coaching skills and ambitions among other commitments,” said the Chelsea club icon, who played in 713 games as a player in the shirt of the London club. His trophy cabinet was completed with the Champions League, the Europa League, five English league titles and five FA Cups.

Terry retired from Chelsea in 2017 after a successful career and then played for another year in the Aston Villa shirt. He then worked for more than three years as an assistant manager at the Birmingham club. A few months ago, he announced his retirement as the right-hand man to manager Dean Smith, who was recently sacked from Villa Park. Terry’s decision to return to Stamford Bridge has been met with a lot of positive response on Instagram. Former teammate Cesc Fàbregas, among others, hands out compliments. “What great news, good luck!” writes the AS Monaco midfielder.
