JAN Olde Riekerink could grow his shares among Cape Town City’s faithful if he can secure the team a top-eight spot in this season’s Premier League.

There is no doubt that the Dutch have been more settled since the five-month hiatus due to the corona virus pandemic.

That’s because his City team started playing fluent and attractive football again.

The confidence that Olde Riekerink shows in young players is also gratifying.

City take on SuperSport tomorrow in their final game of the season.

Although a victory is not crucial to secure a position among the top eight, it will be the suitable way for the Dutchman to end his debut season in the PSL.

But City, who are seventh (39 points), cannot rest assured, especially not after Wednesday’s 0-1 defeat to Highlands Park, who are also battling for a top-eight spot.

Refresh

Bloemfontein Celtic, who are ninth with 36 points, will have to win with a big goal difference and hope City do not get a point to secure a top-eight place for him.

Olde Riekerink’s biggest challenges for the future are to determine his best squad.

Then he will also have to work on his various combinations and who he can use as like-for-like substitutes to refresh the team.

Olde Riekerink will know that SuperSport will present a massive challenge.

He must therefore choose his most experienced and formidable players to achieve a victory and win the trust of City fans.
