At Barcelona, they don’t seem to want to compromise on the situation surrounding Ilaix Moriba. The eighteen-year-old midfielder has been training with Barcelona B for a while and if it is up to Joan Laporta, that will not change for the time being. During the presentation of Emerson Royal, the president briefly discussed the desperate situation surrounding Moriba, who has not reached an agreement with the club management about extending his contract until next summer.

Laporta confirmed Monday that Moriba does not have to count on an improved proposal. The negotiations between the club and the Moriba camp have so far yielded nothing, which means that he was not selected for the training internship in Germany, among other things. “We can’t let a player trained here try to cash in on the fact that he only has a one-year contract left,” the president said, somewhat threateningly. “That’s a situation we don’t accept and our message is clear: if you don’t want to renew, you know there are other solutions.”

Barcelona have a three-year contract on hand for the young midfielder, on more or less the same terms as his current contract. “We are not going to transfer a player to the first team so that he can then transfer free to another club. Anyone who wants to leave has plenty of room for that, as long as certain conditions are met,” says Laporta. In the eyes of the club management, Moriba has the opportunity to benefit from the full confidence of Ronald Koeman for the next three years. The club assumes that Barcelona will be in a better financial situation in three years’ time, allowing Moriba’s salary to be reconsidered.

“Ilaix is a great player, who knows very well what is going on,” said Laporta. “Barca have given him opportunities and he can’t arm wrestle with us now. I hope he and his environment will reflect the situation. We don’t understand what he is doing. I hope this doesn’t happen again in the future. happens with self-trained players.” Barcelona had hoped to have clarity about the situation around Moriba before the training camp, but those plans went through a thick line last week.
