Suriname knows what to do in the final group match against Canada in the qualifying phase for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. Canada was 0-7 too strong for the Aruba of interim national coach Stanley Menzo on Saturday evening local time. That means that Suriname must beat Canada in the night from Tuesday to Wednesday, as the goal difference of the team of national coach John Herdman is significantly better.

Joshua John and Terence Groothusen are the most famous internationals at Aruba and both appeared at the starting signal. The rest mainly play in the top of amateur football. Canada laid the foundation for the stunning victory in the first half at the IMG stadium in Bradenton. A good header by Lucas Cavallini made it 0-1 after seventeen minutes of play and three minutes later Junior Hoilett converted a penalty. In extra time, Cavallini also made the 0-3 after a pass from Tajon Buchanan.

Minutes after the break, Zachary Brault-Guillard shot the 0-4 out of the turn against the ropes. Jonathan David and Alphonso Davies were brought in by Herdman after more than an hour of play, after which Canada found the net three more times in the last twelve minutes. Davies hit the ball with a good effort from a difficult angle and five minutes after his substitute, Cyle Larin punished Aruba for a mistake. David immediately scored the final score in the ninetieth minute with his first shot on goal: 0-7.

Canada previously won 5-1 against Bermuda in the group stage of the CONCACAF zone and in the second group match, the Cayman Islands won no less than 0-11. The meeting between Canada and Suriname will take place in the Toyota Park in the American Bridgeview. Canada (+21 after 3 matches) needs a draw against Suriname (+15 after 3 matches), as the goal difference is decisive.

Only the group winner advances to the next round, where one of the other five group winners awaits in a double showdown. The winners of those duels will face the top countries of the CONCACAF zone in the final round in an entire competition: Mexico, United States, Costa Rica, Jamaica and Honduras. The best three go to Qatar, the number four still plays an intercontinental play-off.
