SC Cambuur has not been able to narrow the gap with Almere City FC in the Kitchen Champion Division. Henk de Jong’s team seemed to pull a 2-1 victory over Jong Ajax on Saturday, but in the last minutes Mitchell van der Gaag’s players forced a 2-3 victory. Because of the defeat, Cambuur’s deficit on Almere City remains five points, although they still have a duel credit. Young Ajax is now in seventh place.

In a nice first half Cambuur at times reached a high level. However, it was Young Ajax that was the first to score. The visitors played under the pressure, after which Kenneth Taylor, on a pass from Brian Brobbey, fired the ball into the completely open left corner of Sonny Stevens.

A wonderful team attack from Cambuur in the fifteenth minute was the basis of the 1-1. Mees Hoedemakers was given space to lash out and shot the leather superbly behind Kjell Scherpen. Four minutes later, Cambuur fired sharp again. The pressure by the team of De Jong paid off: Jamie Jacobs freed Neraysho Kasanwirjo from the ball and saw Michael Breij score from his pass.

After more than an hour of play, Young Ajax got away well. Everyone, including Scherpen, was counting on a cross from Breij, but the attacker tried it in the short corner and aimed for the post. It was Cambuur that created opportunities, partly due to unnecessary mistakes in the defense of Van der Gaag’s team. Jong Ajax then played well at times, put Cambuur under pressure and did not allow De Jong’s team to break out.

Cambuur saw the lead disappear in the last eight minutes. A shot by Devyne Rensch was so diverted by Calvin Mac-Intosch that he left Stevens without a chance: 2-2. A few minutes later, the 2-3 fell. Stevens was able to prevent Brobbey from scoring the third goal at first, but from Taylor’s corner kick, the uncovered Enric Llansana headed the winning goal against the ropes.
