Sjors Ultee has been fired as trainer of SC Cambuur. The poor start to the season has cost him his head, reports say Football International.
Cambuur currently occupies eleventh place in the rankings of the Kitchen Champion Division. The last three matches were lost (5-2 against FC Dordrecht, 3-4 against Jong PSV and 3-2 against Jong Utrecht) and with 21 goals conceded, the Leeuwarders had to concede the most goals after Jong Ajax (24).
After the disappointing start to the season, Cambuur fans were increasingly calling for the departure of Ultee and the appointment of De Jong. Under the latter, the club was promoted to the Eredivisie in the 2012/13 season and the 2020/21 year.
In December last year, the 58-year-old coach had to resign from his duties for the second time due to a cyst in his head. Fortunately, the born Drachtser has now fully recovered from this. De Jong would be a guest on Sunday morning Good morning Eredivisie, but canceled at the last minute after SC Cambuur’s disappointing defeat against FC Dordrecht (5-2). The coach previously said that he was itching to get back to work.
“We were actually going to sit here at the table with Henk de Jong, but you received a call yesterday morning (Saturday, ed.),” said ESPN presenter Fresia Cousiño Arias to other regular table guest Hans Kraay junior. “Henk was supposed to come, but he called woke me up very early yesterday,” Kraay junior began his statement. “He said: ‘I’m all in trouble, I haven’t slept. Cambuur lost yesterday (Friday, ed.). Ultee… well, they sometimes call my name,” Kraay junior remembered his telephone conversation with the coach.
“I love Sjors so much, I could sit here and tell you all about how I have recuperated and how lucky I have been, but I cannot do well towards Cambuur,” the coach, beloved in Leeuwarden, told Kraay junior.
“He said fifteen times, please, let me stay at home, so that I don’t say anything bad about Cambuur or Ultee,” Kraay junior emphasized De Jong’s plea. “I did say: ‘If you are going to be on television again, it will be at Fresia’,” the analyst jokes.
