Calvin Stengs confirmed on Saturday afternoon that Lazio is interested in him. The Feyenoord midfielder does not want to say much more about it and says he wants to focus on the new season under the new coach Brian Priske.

In conversation with ESPN-reporter Sinclair Bischop agrees with Stengs that the Romans are after him. “That is true, but nothing is concrete yet. I am happy to be at Feyenoord. I have only been here for a year, I will see what will happen.”

Stengs then confirms that the goal is to 'reignite' with Feyenoord this year. So it is still very much the question whether a transfer will come about. In mid-June, Italian media reported that Lazio sees Stengs as a suitable replacement for playmaker Luis Alberto, who made the switch to Al-Duhail this summer.

Stengs played one half with Feyenoord on Saturday, who managed to beat FC Dordrecht (0-4) in the first practice match of the preparation. The midfielder, who wore the captain's armband, contributed to the victory with a goal.

The first days under Priske have been good for Stengs. “He brings new ideas and a fresh input, that's always good when you've had a trainer who has had so much influence on the club,” he refers to Arne Slot. “Then I think new ideas are good.”

Feyenoord started in a 3-4-3 system, which never happened under Slot. Stengs likes the new system. “Certainly, everyone knows clearly what the plan is. Especially up front. Everyone picks up their man. It can be dangerous if someone doesn't follow their man, then it can be open. But I think we did well today.”

Stengs had a good season with Feyenoord, but it was not enough for national coach Ronald Koeman to take the Nieuw-Venneper to the European Championship. “In the beginning there was some disappointment”, Stengs admits. “But that's over and then you have to move on. I just support them and hope they reach the next round.”
