Borussia Dortmund did good business on Saturday evening with a view to the league table in the Bundesliga. The team of trainer Edin Terzic was 2-0 too strong for Hertha BSC in-house and secured fifth place. Dortmund has thus continued the hunt for tickets for the Champions League and is still one point behind number four Eintracht Frankfurt, which has to visit number two RB Leipzig on Sunday.

In a first half in which the chances were sparse, Dortmund had the best opportunity to take the lead. After fifteen minutes of play, Marco Reus enjoyed all the freedom to moor in Hertha’s penalty area. The attacker tried with a volley, but saw his effort just over the bar. Jude Bellingham also did not have his sights on and had to see how goalkeeper Rune Jarstein managed to prevent Dortmund’s opening goal with an excellent save ten minutes before the end of the first half.

After the break, there was significantly more to enjoy for both goals and it was the home team that took the lead after all. Julian Brandt tried from a great distance and was surprised to see that Jarstein had no answer to the shot. The goalkeeper saw the leather coming straight towards him, but could not prevent the ball from going into the goal behind him due to a mop. Dortmund then pressed on and was close to a second goal five minutes later. Mahmoud Dahoud tried to reach a teammate with a cross from the right, but saw his diverted bet shatter on the top of the crossbar.

Hertha, who started with Deyovaisio Zeefuik in the starting line-up and brought Javairô Dilrosun on the line twenty minutes before the end, offered very little in return and had to limit herself to defending. To make matters worse, the team had to continue with ten men in the final phase, when Vladimír Darida hit Reus’s ankle with a straight leg. The midfielder immediately apologized, but could not prevent referee Martin Pietersen from rightly sending him off the field with a red card. Reus was forced to change places not much later. Dortmund had opportunities to expand the score in the final phase and ended the game via Youssouga Moukoko. The attacker got rid of two Hertha defenders and then shot from the left from the awkward angle between the legs at Jarstein: 2-0.
