Burak Yilmaz will leave Fortuna Sittard at the end of the season, he announced on Instagram on Friday afternoon. Thursday reported Football International already that the Turkish attacker intended to stop. Those reports are now confirmed by the protagonist himself. Yilmaz wants to fully focus on his coaching career. His stay in Sittard is limited to one year.

“I will no longer play for Fortuna Sittard next season,” Yilmaz said via Instagram Stories. “I will tell you later what happened to the president and Azerion (co-owner, ed.). I wish you the best.” The farewell of the Turk should come as no surprise. The 77-time international posted a farewell message on Instagram at the beginning of April and, although he did return to the message, has not played a minute for Fortuna since then.

According to Yilmaz himself, this was due to injuries, but technical manager Sjoerd Ars gave a different explanation on Thursday Football International. “The plan we had in the beginning, when Burak signed here for five years, two of which as a footballer, will turn out differently,” said Ars. “We are talking to each other about his situation. But Burak has now decided that he does not want to start a second year as a player. He wants to focus on coaching.”

Rumors are circulating in Turkey that Yilmaz will be involved in the Turkish national team as assistant national coach. The attacker signed a five-year contract last summer with the intention of continuing as a trainer after two years. Due to his departure, the away match against Ajax will go down in the books as Yilmaz’s last in Fortuna’s shirt. He came into action a total of 27 times for the Limburgers. He managed to score 9 times and gave 5 assists.
