The supporters of Dynamo Dresden showed their worst side last Saturday. Felix Götze, the brother of former PSV player Mario Götze, suffered a head injury just before the end and was taken off the field on a stretcher. While the battered center back was being carried to the catacombs, he was spat at and insulted, he said on his own Instagram page.

The incident took place in the final phase of the match between Dresden and his current club Rot-Weiss Essen (2-2). Götze suffered a head injury after an aerial duel with Dresden defender Jakob Lemmer and was unable to complete the game.

After the caregivers and club doctors had somewhat patched up Götze and taken him to the catacombs, insulting texts were shouted from the stands and Götze said he was spat at.

Götze looks back on the situation on Instagram. “My thanks go out to all the caregivers and doctors who took care of me yesterday (Saturday, ed.), but I have to vent about one thing,” the 26-year-old begins his story.

“Yesterday (Saturday, ed.) I cried for the first time on a football field, it was not because of the pain. It was humiliating to be insulted and spat at while being carried off the field with a bloody face and in shock. There are boundaries and they have been crossed.”

Injury history

The behavior of these individuals is particularly shameful, as Götze is not dealing with a head injury for the first time. A few years ago, the man was already in intensive care after a serious skull fracture. Only a few months after his return, as a player for FC Kaiserslautern, things went wrong again with a concussion.

Götze also states in his message on Instagram that despite all the setbacks, he loves the sport and the supporters dearly. “I love this sport and all the supporters, because without supporters there is no football, but please behave responsibly. Emotion is not a bad thing, but to a certain extent. There is a person in every football shirt!”, the German concludes his story.

Götze has been playing for RW Essen since the summer of 2022. The German third division player first hired him, after which he impressed the Essen directors so much during his rental period that he was permanently taken over from FC Augsburg last summer.

Bee RWE Götze is also a permanent fixture at the heart of the defense this season. So far he has played 22 of a possible 27 matches and managed to score once. With his club he occupies sixth place in the 3. Liga, nine points behind Dresden, which is second.
