Ajax has yet to officially announce Brian Brobbey’s return, but the nineteen-year-old striker already seems to be anticipating his temporary transfer to Amsterdam on Instagram. “Back to work now”, writes Brobbey with two holiday photos. He adds three crosses to that text, normally a reference to the Andrew’s crosses of Amsterdam.

Brobbey’s Instagram post generates the necessary reactions. “3 crosses, huh”, reacts Ryan Gravenberch. Brobbey himself replies to that in turn: “Hahah you understand.” Jurrïen Timber also places three crosses under the photos, while Kenneth Taylor responds with two flames. Joshua Zirkzee (‘Groffff’) and Ki-Jana Hoever (‘Amazing’) are also heard under Brobbey’s post.

“For those who still doubted Brobbey’s return to Ajax. Paperwork checked by lawyers today,” writes Mike Verweij, Ajax watcher on behalf of The Telegraph, following Brobbey’s post on Twitter. He expects that Ajax will announce the rental deal with RB Leipzig one of these days. Various media reported last week that Brobbey’s return to Ajax was in order.

Ajax has not stipulated an option to buy in the lease with RB Leipzig, which Brobbey removed from Amsterdam last summer on a free transfer. The striker did not score a single time, although he did score three assists. Jesse Marsch did not see a basic player in Brobbey and even under his successor Domenico Tedesco the prospect of a permanent place in the vanguard was not very great. De Telegraaf already reported that Brobbey was determined to leave Leipzig in the meantime.
