Brian Brobbey temporarily returns to Ajax, so makes The Telegraph announced Monday afternoon. The nineteen-year-old striker will be rented from RB Leipzig for the rest of the season, after an oral agreement between the clubs. There is no option to buy stipulated during the negotiations. The young attacker took BILD The recent farewell to his teammates from Leipzig and Brobbey gave extra nourishment to the rumors about a return to Ajax, when the striker showed on his Instagram story that he was in Amsterdam-Zuidoost at that time.

Ajax would like to include an option to buy in the lease, but the Germans proved unwilling to do so, so that a definitive transfer of Brobbey will be discussed at the earliest next summer. We are now waiting for an official announcement from the clubs. The attacker, who signed a contract with Leipzig until mid-2025 last summer, has made fourteen appearances for the German club in recent months.

Brian Brobbey signed for six goals in nineteen matches in his first Ajax period.

The striker, who has now returned to Ajax, did not score a single time, although he did record three assists. Jesse Marsch did not see a basic player in Brobbey and even under his successor Domenico Tedesco the prospect of a permanent place in the vanguard was not very great. The Telegraph already mentioned that Brobbey was determined to leave Leipzig in the meantime. In Germany Brobbey recently had to do mostly with raids. After the 0-2 loss with Arminia Bielefeld last weekend, he already said goodbye to Tedesco and his teammates.

The Telegraph points out that director of football affairs Marc Overmars had to step over his own shadow for the rental of Brobbey. After all, the rule at Ajax was that the door in principle remained closed to youth players who had left the club on a free transfer. According to the newspaper, an exception is made for Brobbey because the attacker has ‘a fantastic character’ and will have ‘an expected added value’.

At Ajax, Brobbey will compete with Sébastien Haller, so far good for 20 goals in 23 matches in all competitions this season. However, the striker will play the African Cup with Ivory Coast and will miss the difficult matches with FC Utrecht and PSV, among other things. It by no means means that Brobbey is only seen as Haller’s stand-in. In his first period at Ajax, Brobbey scored six goals in nineteen appearances. He may make his return on January 16, when the club from Amsterdam resumes the Eredivisie visiting FC Utrecht.
