Fredrik Aursnes has left nothing to chance in the run-up to his transfer to Feyenoord. The midfielder, who was presented by the Rotterdam team on Tuesday, has addressed a number of compatriots in recent weeks to obtain information about trainer Arne Slot and Feyenoord. Aursnes contacted Jonas Svensson and Fredrik Midtsjö, who spoke a few praises about the Feyenoord coach.

Svensson and Midtsjö both worked with Slot when he was still working at AZ as a trainer. Aursnes also obtained information from Marcus Pedersen, who had come over from Molde earlier. “They indicated that they think Arne Slot is a very good trainer and that the way of playing football under him is very nice,” Aursnes said during the official presentation on Wednesday afternoon. “I am looking forward to playing football at Feyenoord and will do my best to succeed here. Playing in such a beautiful entourage as at Feyenoord seems great to me.”

Until now, Aursnes was only acquainted with the selection of Feyenoord. On Wednesday afternoon, he will be on the field for the first time with his new teammates. “The scouting and I watched him very closely,” Slot said during the press conference in the run-up to the return in the Conference League against FC Luzern. “He is a player who moves very easily and walks a lot. He is very comfortable on the ball and has a real acceleration on the ball. A very good addition to the squad as he can play from behind the ball in midfield. I felt that we still needed that within this selection.”

The midfielder is not yet available against the Swiss on Thursday evening, as he already played on behalf of Molde in the Conference League this season. “He will be fit to play next weekend”, Slot looks ahead. “We have to see if he will play. We have five good midfielders at our disposal and that is very normal for any Eredivisie club, let alone for a top club. I always hear Erik ten Hag say that you need a wide dressing room and more than eleven basic players. He is absolutely right about that.” If it is up to Aursnes, he will make his debut on behalf of Feyenoord next weekend against Willem II. “If the trainer wants it, I am immediately available for Feyenoord. I am ready.”
