Siep Engelen

Latest update:

Brian Priske gave his first press conference as Feyenoord coach on Wednesday afternoon. The Dane has the tough task of succeeding Arne Slot at De Kuip, but he is really looking forward to it. He does start the press conference by apologizing to the Feyenoord supporters.

“I am of course very grateful to be here. I also have to apologize to the supporters,” Priske begins. “My Dutch is not perfect yet. It is decent, but speaking is still a bit difficult. I understand almost everything. So today I would like to do the press conference in English.”

The trainer is now well on his way to mastering the language and hopes to be able to answer the questions in Dutch soon. “I hope that my Dutch will be better within a month or two. Then it will be much easier for me to answer difficult questions. I hope that I can do it in English today.”

The press conference took place on Wednesday afternoon after the first training session led by Priske. He immediately made it clear how important Het Legioen is to the club. “The supporters mean everything when it comes to a football club. Here at Feyenoord and at my previous clubs, the supporters were an important factor. I look forward to meeting the supporters in De Kuip.”

“During the match I hope they support us for 90 minutes. At the end of the match they can be critical. I have seen moments in De Kuip where the team is struggling. Supporters push and support the team until the referee blows the final whistle and that is crucial for me. After the match it is fine to be negative,” said Priske.

Priske has the very tough task of succeeding Slot, who has left for Liverpool, in Rotterdam. “That feels good,” says Priske. “I have of course seen his work at Feyenoord and he has done a great job in all aspects. I want to thank him for the foundations he has laid.”

“I will have a team at my disposal that is running, a team that is well organised. Many staff members are still working at Feyenoord, which helps me enormously,” says the trainer. The season officially starts for Feyenoord in early August with the battle for the Johan Cruijff Shield against PSV.
