AZ suffered its first defeat in preparation for the new season on Saturday. Pascal Jansen’s team lost 1-0 against RB Leipzig due to a goal by Lazar Samardzic. Remarkable was the short substitute by Myron Boadu, who came in at half time and dropped out again after 22 minutes. It was probably the last minutes of the striker in the AZ shirt: his transfer to AS Monaco is imminent.

AZ still had to do without its European Championship-goers and Jansen experimented in a system with three center defenders. The trainer of the Alkmaarders said earlier this week that in his eyes his group of players is very suitable for carrying out such a tactic with wingbacks. For RB Leipzig, where Brian Brobbey was missing due to an injury, it was only the first practice match of the preparation. AZ had the best of the game in the first half, which produced few opportunities.

A few minutes after the break, AZ goalkeeper Hobie Verhulst, for the time being the replacement for Marco Bizot, intervened on a shot by Samardzic, which landed on the crossbar via his fingertips. Two minutes later it was still hit for the attacking midfielder from Leipzig, who was given room to turn in the penalty area and scored from the edge with a low shot: 1-0. Dani de Wit had a great chance to equalize in the final phase, but shot wildly over after a rejected free kick.
