In the match between Fortuna Sittard and Feyenoord, a separate confrontation arose on Sunday afternoon between Roel Janssen and Arne Slot. The Fortuna defender wanted to take a throw-in that was actually for Feyenoord and almost knocked Slot over in an attempt to tear the ball free from him. Although the mood was equally high, the situation was quickly calmed down, partly due to the intervention of arbitrator Allard Lindhout.

After 37 minutes, there was a disturbance in front of Feyenoord’s dugout. After the ball rolled over the sideline, Slot popped it up and took the ball in his hands. Fortuna defender Roel Janssen wanted to take the throw-in quickly and turned Slot roughly around his axis, trying to yank the ball free. Assistants John de Wolf and Marino Pusic of Feyenoord were not pleased with the action and immediately came to talk to Janssen.

Remarkably enough, the throw-in was not even for Fortuna. After all, it was Fortuna midfielder Tesfaldet Tekie who had touched the ball last. The linesman had not yet given a signal and seemed to doubt who the throw-in was for. The riot lasted quite briefly in the end: Slot could laugh about it and shook Janssen’s hand. Feyenoord eventually took the throw-in. The team from Rotterdam was ahead 0-2 at that time due to two hits by Lutsharel Geertruida.
