Mario Gotze has appeared on the radar of Bayern Munich. BILD reports that head coach Hansi Flick has spoken with the clubless midfielder by telephone about a renewed cooperation. The Bayern coach already worked with Götze as an assistant national team coach at the national team of Germany. The latter worried die Mannschaft in 2014 the world title by scoring the winning goal in the final against Argentina (1-0) in extension.

Flick recently said goodbye to Philippe Coutinho, Ivan Perisic and Thiago Alcántara, among others, and the trainer of der Rekordmeister is therefore looking for reinforcements for civil society. BILD emphasizes that chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge and technical director Hasan Salihamidzic have not yet commented on the conversation between Flick and Götze, which, according to the German newspaper, may indicate that they are somewhat skeptical about a possible return of the 29-year-old midfielder. During his first period, Götze was regularly the object of criticism from fans and the policymakers have apparently not forgotten that.

Götze made the switch from Borussia Dortmund to Bayern in mid-2013 for 37 million euros. Despite the high expectations, however, he never managed to secure a permanent place in the team of then trainer Josep Guardiola. In 2016, both parties said goodbye and Götze opted to return to Dortmund. The 2014 World Cup hero left BVB several months ago with a transfer-free status. Götze was linked in the American media to the FC Cincinnati of coach Jaap Stam last summer, although a definitive deal never got off the ground.

As far as Götze is concerned, the end of his career is not yet in sight. “I have ambitious goals and I want to do everything I can to conquer the Champions League one time”, the former Dortmund and Bayern playmaker said not long ago. BILD. Götze would reportedly settle for a short-term contract and a considerably lower salary in order to return to the Allianz Arena.
