Besiktas failed to take over the lead in the Süper Lig on Friday evening. Sergen Yalçin saw several players return from injuries, but saw his team go down against Istanbul Basaksehir: 3-2. Besiktas therefore remains in third place in the competition. On Tuesday, the club will play at home against Sporting Portugal in the Champions League.
For Besiktas, the international break came as called, because the club saw its overcrowded infirmary empty quite a bit. The experienced Gunok had just been given another chance by Yalçin, after the young Ersin Destanoglu was preferred under the bar in the last matches, including against Ajax.
The breakthrough Chadli could have increased the score for Basaksehir shortly after the break, but the former FC Twente attacker aimed wide through Günok’s body. Besiktas came back into the game after an hour of play, when Basaksehir goalkeeper Volkan Babacan just played the ball in the feet of Alex Teixeira, who knew how to handle that gift: 1-1. Both teams had chances, but Basaksehir won. In the 84th minute, Osaka tapped in a cross from the right flank of Fredrik Gulbrandsen: 2-1. A counterattack made the decision two minutes later. Visca put the ball back to Gulbrandsen in the penalty area, who placed the ball in: 3-1. Besiktas came back to 3-2 via a penalty from Michy Batshuayi.
