Besiktas suffered an embarrassing defeat on a visit to Konyaspor on Sunday afternoon. The number thirteen of the previous Süper Lig season was no less than 4-1 too strong for the formation of trainer Sergen Yalçin. The defeat in Konya completes a disastrous week for Besiktas, in which Portugal’s Rio Ave the Black Eagles already marched out of the Europa League.

With a defeat against Sivasspor, a victory over Trabzonspor and a draw against Antalyaspor, Besiktas did not have a very good start to the season. PAOK Salonika also thwarted the way of the Black Eagles towards the Champions League main tournament, while Rio Ave ended the Europa League adventure last Thursday. After it remained 1-1 in Istanbul, the Portuguese took the penalty kicks better and Besiktas’ European adventure is already over.

The disaster week was completed on Sunday afternoon with the defeat against Konyaspor. Oguzhan Özyakup started the game as a bench seat, while Jeremain Lens was not even in the selection. Levan Shengelia opened the score after half an hour of play, after which it took a long time for Konyaspor to distance itself from Besiktas. Artem Kravets doubled the margin with 63 minutes on the clock, after which the score increased further fifteen minutes before the end.

Shengelia signed for the 3-0 fifteen minutes before time, while Kravets also made his second of the afternoon and took the fourth goal for Konyaspor from eleven meters. In injury time, Gokhan Töre did something back on behalf of Besiktas, setting the final score at 4-1. The Yalçin team thus falls into the middle bracket of the Süper Lig and will take on Gençlerbirligi in their own stadium next week.
