After the match against Sparta Rotterdam, Steven Bergwijn was extremely critical of his team's play, as could be seen in front of the cameras of ESPN. The Ajax captain was only full of praise for one player on the team from Amsterdam: basic debutant Mika Godts.

The Ajax left winger made his return to action against Sparta, after a hamstring injury kept him sidelined for several weeks. Bergwijn immediately left his mark on the match, by scoring the late 2-2 and thus saving a point for the Amsterdam team.

Afterwards, Bergwijn appeared in front of the cameras ESPN. “It is true that few of us got into Sparta's box in the first half,” Bergwijn opens. “At half-time, the Ajax players told each other that they had to be sharper in front of the goal.”

Bergwijn was very pleased with Godts. The eighteen-year-old Belgian suffered a serious injury this season, but is now fully back. After some good performances on behalf of Jong Ajax, Godts was now allowed to show it from the start in the first team.

“Mika really had some great plays. If we had been sharper, we could have scored one or two more goals,” said Bergwijn, who was also happy to be back on the field and to be important for his team.

“I came for my husband and I kind of saw it coming,” is how Bergwijn describes his goal. “I often sleep a little at such moments and that is something I am working on. But luckily today it went well.”

Trainer John van 't Schip was also pleased with Godts' performance. “He played a very good match. He had a lot of threat from the left. In the first half he was our most dangerous man. He has already played fifteen minutes longer than expected,” said a satisfied trainer.
