David Neres is expected to attract interest from Napoli, reports Sports Corriere and A Bola Thursday night. Benfica are said to have put a price tag of 25 million euros around Neres' neck.

Under coach Roger Schmidt, Neres is not an undisputed regular at Benfica and that may offer a solution for Napoli. New coach Antonio Conte wants to implement more depth at Napoli and he sees Neres as a suitable addition.

Napoli and Benfica have opened talks, although they are not yet advanced. Neres, who can play both on the right and the left, has a release clause of €100 million in his contract, but a quarter of that amount should be enough to bring him to Naples.

Neres is under contract at Estádio da Luz until mid-2027, where he bounced between bench and starting line-up last season. In the Portuguese league, Neres was available for 24 matches. He started twelve of those matches, and started twelve times on the bench. He scored five goals and provided ten assists in all competitions last season.

Neres should become the replacement for Jesper Lindstrøm at Napoli, who is approaching a transfer to Everton. Napoli is open to a departure of the Dane and the expectation is that this transfer will be completed soon. Lindstrøm should earn 25 million euros and if it is up to Napoli, that amount will be sent directly to Lisbon for Neres.

Benfica signed Neres from Shakhtar Donetsk in the summer of 2022 for around fifteen million euros and can therefore make a profit of ten million euros on the eight-time Brazil international, who has been out of the picture for some time at the Selection.

Neres gained fame in the Netherlands from his time at Ajax. The left-footer played 180 times for the Amsterdammers and was good for 47 goals and 41 assists in that time. Neres moved to Shakhtar in January 2022, which transferred twelve million euros to the Johan Cruijff ArenA.
