Benfica is the opponent of PSV in the last preliminary round of the Champions League. After Spartak Moscow was already beaten 0-2 in the first match, the Portuguese were also amply too strong in the return: 2-0. Earlier in the evening, the Eindhoven team already managed to deal with FC Midtjylland (0-1), which was also defeated in the first match (3-0). PSV will first visit the Estádio da Luz on Wednesday, August 18, after which Roger Schmidt’s team hopes to get the job done on their own field on August 25.

In contrast to the first game, trainer Rui Vitoria had not reserved a starting spot for Jorrit Hendrix this time, for whom the honors were taken care of by Aleksandr Lomovitskiy. Quincy Promes had still not recovered from his injury and was not part of the match selection. The first half was certainly not pleasing to the eye for the neutral spectator, and the first goal was scored after an hour of play.

After a rejected cross from the right side, João Mario got the ball in a promising position, after which he convincingly scored the 1-0. With that, the hopes of the Muscovites for a place in the last preliminary round had finally disappeared. Roman Yaremchuk, who came over from Ghent this summer, made his debut as a substitute and put the final score on the scoreboard in the final minute: 2-0.
