Guido DP from Meerbeke had attended the game in the Jan Breydel Stadium together with supporters club Blue Moon Belgium. The supporter is currently fighting for his life in the hospital, his son Jurgen confirms.

The victim traveled to Bruges by car with two friends. “While we were already driving on, my father was still outside waiting for his two friends,” the son tells The last news. “There, a Club Brugge supporter approached him and pulled his scarf from around his neck. When my father asked for his scarf back, he received a heavy blow to the head after which the perpetrators fled and left my father for dead,” said the victim’s son. The man was transferred in a coma to the AZ Maria Middelares in Ghent, where he is currently fighting for his life.

Guido DP visits many Manchester City matches as a loyal fan. Together with 233 Belgian Manchester City supporters, he was looking forward to meeting Club Brugge in the Jan Breydel Stadium. This time he didn’t have to book a flight to England, but could visit his favorite club close to home. Via Blue Moon Belgium, an official supporters club of the Citizens, of which his son Jurgen is co-chairman, he had obtained tickets for the Champions League match.

“My father was cowardly attacked because of his City scarf during a stopover in Drongen. We hope that the perpetrators are found and punished,” the son writes on the Facebook page of the supporters association. “We were all over England and the rest of Europe, never aggression. We come to Belgium once and you are left for dead. Keep on fighting, daddy.”
