Latest update:

Dirk Kuijt will also be Beerschot's trainer next season, sources report The last news. In recent weeks there have been rumors of a departure for the 43-year-old coach, but that can be thrown in the trash bin. Kuijt signs an improved contract for two seasons, with an option for a third year.

Kuijt guided Belgian second division team Beerschot to the Jupiler Pro League with a championship this season, but his stay as coach was anything but certain for a long time. This had everything to do with the administrative unrest that prevailed within the club. General manager Frederic Van den Steen and technical director Gyorgy Csepregi left the ship, minority shareholder Francis Vrancken resigned his position as chairman and stopped as director.

After some positive discussions with owner Prince Abdullah, Kuijt is convinced of the possibilities with Beerschot and has reportedly signed a two-year contract. The opportunities at the highest level plus the improved financial picture have convinced the trainer to stay.

Main owner Prince Abdullah convinced Kuijt of his plans with a strong offer. He has also promised him a budget to strengthen the team in a way that does not make a poor impression in the highest division.

Kuijt joined Beerschot just after the winter break, where he succeeded Andreas Wieland, who had resigned. The Austrian had his contract terminated due to, among other things, a lack of confidence in the club management.

When the Katwijk coach joined, Beerschot was at the top of the Challenger Pro League, the second level of Belgium. In the second phase of the season he guided the club further to the championship.

The goal of promotion to the Jupiler Pro League was therefore hardly in jeopardy for Kuijt, who made little impression during his previous coaching job at ADO Den Haag. He now seems to be in a better place in Belgium.
