Bayern Munich and RB Leipzig have reached an agreement to cancel an old deal about Dayot Upamecano. Defender’s contract with of the Rekordmeister would initially only start on July 15, which meant that he had to report to the first training session of RB Leipzig on Monday. Bayern had little appetite for that, but the salary caused a rift between the clubs.

BILD reports on Sunday that Bayern and Leipzig will eventually share Upamecano’s salary between July 1 and 15 and that he can simply start the preparation at the South German top club. The French center defender was on the payroll of those Red Bulls.. The clubs previously opted for July 15 as the start date because RB Leipzig would then still have Upamecano at their disposal if the Bundesliga season was postponed due to the corona pandemic.

Leizig director Florian Scholz admitted last month that it would be better for all parties involved if Upamecano were to join the Bayern selection in mid-July, where Julian Nagelsmann represents the group. “But it is true that given the current contract, this is not the case. That is why we expect to see him here at the start of the preparation for the new season. However, we will do everything we can to ensure that Dayot arrives fit for Bayern on July 15,” Scholz said. However, that is no longer necessary now that the clubs have come to an agreement.

Upamecano, 22, was attracted to Bayern in February for a fee of 42.5 million euros. He is a welcome addition to Bayern and Nagelsmann. The club has said goodbye to Jerome Boateng, Javi Martínez and David Alaba. The latter defender continues his career at Real Madrid. In addition, it has turned out that Niklas Süle is quite prone to injury.
