Bayern Munich has presented the home shirt for next season. The champion of Germany will wear the new uniform for the first time on Saturday afternoon from 4.30 pm in the practice match against Ajax. Thanks to last season’s league title, Bayern can play with five stars above the club logo for the first time.

In terms of stars, different regulations are used in Germany than in the Netherlands. Where Dutch clubs are allowed to add a star to the shirt for every ten national titles, in Germany it is stipulated that a star may be added when certain milestones are reached: after three, five and ten national titles a star follows, after which every ten subsequent national titles result in an additional star.

Formally, Bayern has been national champion a total of 31 times, but the first league title from 1932 is not taken into account. After all, the Deutsche Fussball Liga determined that only championships from 1963, when the competition system was introduced, count. Before that, the national champion was determined by a knock-out system with teams from different regional competitions.

“Our new home shirt is very special for the club. The fifth star is a tribute to all the great achievements of the past decades, while at the same time being a huge incentive for everyone to always give everything for all our fans,” said General Manager Oliver Kahn on the Bayern website.
