Bayern Munich have won their first league win of the season. The team of coach Julian Nagelsmann had not progressed further than a 1-1 draw against Borussia Mönchengladbach on the first match day of the Bundesliga last Friday, but 1. FC Köln was put aside with some difficulty on Sunday: 3-2. The reigning national champion lost a double lead in a few minutes, but prevented another misstep at home.

FC Köln, with Kingsley Ehizibue in the starting line-up, started the game strongly, with a lot of pace on the sides, disrupting Bayern’s play in the build-up. After about ten or fifteen minutes, however, Bayern took full control of the game. However, Nagelsmann’s team made it way too difficult for themselves and barely fired on Timo Horm’s goal, except for a seething shot from Niklas Süle. Furthermore, the goalkeeper of Köln, but also Manuel Neuer on the other side, did not have to take action.

After the break, Josip Stanisic and Jamal Musiala made their appearance and the latter was responsible for the 1-0 in the fiftieth minute. The youngster continued well on the left and did not miss Robert Lewandowski in the mouth of the goal. It was already the twelfth consecutive Bundesliga game in which the Pole was accurate. After less than an hour of play, the 2-0 appeared on the scoreboard. After a sharp pass by Thomas Müller from the right, Gnabry shot the ball in with the left.

Bayern lost the double lead in a few minutes. Anthony Modeste headed in the connecting goal a minute after the 2-0 between Sule and Alphonso Davies. Not much later, Mark Uth also got the ball behind Neuer after preparatory work by Ehizibue. However, the three points were for Bayern, which struck for a third time twenty minutes before time. Horn had no answer to a bet from Gnabry from fifteen yards: 3-2. Lewandowski almost scored his second goal not much later, but the bottom of the bar got in the way of a 4-2 final score.

After two rounds of play, the VfL Wolfsburg of trainer Mark van Bommel is the leader in the Bundesliga. Wolfsburg is the only team to have the full loot of six points after two games.
