Matthijs de Ligt is a player for Bayern Munich, the German superpower announces through the official channels. The 22-year-old centre-back signed a contract until mid-2027 at the Allianz Arena, after he passed the medical examination without any problems. Bayern will reportedly pay eighty million euros, including bonuses, to Juventus, where De Ligt’s contract ran until the summer of 2024. The mandekker will receive an annual salary of approximately eight million euros plus bonuses from Bayern.

De Ligt has been a fan of Bayern since his youth and therefore rejected concrete interest from Chelsea. Until recently, the big obstacle in the transfer of the defender to Bavaria turned out to be the transfer fee. Juventus wanted to let the apple of his eye go for no less than the maximum and Bayern did not have sufficient financial resources for last Saturday. That changed with the sale of Robert Lewandowski to Barcelona for 45 million euros, an amount that can rise to 50 million euros due to bonuses. This allowed them to meet Juventus’s asking price.

On the website of his new club, De Ligt expresses his joy about the transfer. “I am very happy that I am now a player of this great club. Bayern is the most successful club from Germany, one of the most successful clubs in Europe and also in the world. I sensed from the beginning that the club management and the trainers wanted me and that convinced me to come and play here. Moreover, Bayern is a progressive club with big goals. I am very happy that I will now be part of the history of this club.”

With the departure of Giorgio Chiellini and the fact that Leonardo Bonucci is already 35, Juventus wanted to continue with De Ligt, who, however, opts for a new adventure at Bayern. The the Dutch international came to 117 games in all competitions in Turin in three seasons on behalf of La Vecchia Signora. De Ligt won the league title, the Coppa Italia and the Supercup once in his Italian period. Juventus transferred 85 million euros to Ajax in 2019 and the superpower is now selling the young defender to Bayern for a slightly lower amount.

De Ligt is Bayern’s fourth signing for the upcoming season. Trainer Julian Nagelsmann added Sadio Mané, Ryan Gravenberch and Noussair Mazraoui to his selection at an earlier stage. Der Rekordmeister has spent around 130 million euros on new players this summer, including De Ligt. The Juventus defender is Bayern’s most expensive purchase due to the transfer fee of eighty million euros, although he has to share that status with Lucas Hernandez. Eighty million euros was also deposited for the versatile Frenchman in 2019.
