Bayern Munich wants to appoint Julian Nagelsmann as new trainer. The German superpower is looking for a successor to Hansi Flick, who will close the door of the Allianz Arena after this season. RB Leipzig does not want to let the 33-year-old trainer go just like that. According to BILD the current number two in the Bundesliga is holding on to a lump sum payment of thirty million euros.

Various German media report that Bayern has already reported to Leipzig for Nagelsmann. The trainer has a continuous contract with his current employer until mid-2023. To buy off his contract, a record amount of thirty million euros will have to be put on the table. It is as yet unknown whether Bayern is willing to go that far for Nagelsmann. Never before has such a high amount been paid for a trainer in the football world. Goal confirms the amount of the transfer fee while Sport 1 reports that negotiations have started and that the lump sum payment will be ‘more clearly than fifteen million euros’.

Nagelsmann was appointed as head coach of TSG Hoffenheim five years ago at the age of 28. He thus became the youngest trainer of all time in the Bundesliga. He led Hoffenheim from the danger zone to qualifying for the Champions League. After three full seasons, he decided to move to Leipzig. With his current club, he reached the semi-finals of the Champions League last season, in which Paris Saint-Germain proved too strong over two matches. This season, Leipzig seems to be going to finish in second place in the German top competition under Nagelsmann.

Flick is about to leave Bayern. Although the German trainer himself has already announced his departure, the Bundesliga list captain has not yet officially confirmed the news. His departure was partly triggered by a difficult relationship with sports director Hasan Salihamidzic. Flick has been linked to employment with the German Football Association for months. He is seen as a top candidate to succeed Joachim Löw as national coach after the European Championship next summer.
