Bayern Munich has fired up the lead of the Bundesliga on Saturday afternoon. The team of trainer Hansi Flick was 1-3 too strong on a visit to Werder Bremen and now has a five-point lead over pursuer RB Leipzig, who will play in-house against Eintracht Frankfurt on Sunday. Robert Lewandowski made his 268th goal in the Bundesliga and is now the most accurate player at the highest level in Germany after Gerd Müller. Wout Weghorst helped VfL Wolfsburg with a goal and two assists to a 5-0 win over Schalke 04. The center forward is now on 16 league goals; Lewandowski is already at 32 in this year.

Werder Bremen – Bayern Munich 1-3
Bayern, which defends a 4-1 lead against Lazio in the Champions League on Wednesday, had few problems with Werder. At the first big danger of the match it was immediately hit. Joshua Kimmich kicked a corner from the left halfway through the first half, which landed on Leon Goretzka’s head and ended up behind goalkeeper Jirí Pavlenka: 0-1. The visitors dominated in the first half and doubled the lead before half-time, when Serge Gnabry was at the end of a nice attack. The attacker saw how Thomas Müller controlled the ball with his chest and then laid it wide, after which it was a breeze for Gnabry to hit the goal: 0-2.

In the second half the game hardly changed and it was Bayern that the clock struck. After Lewandowski first found Pavlenka on his way from a corner with a header, it was hit two minutes later. The striker reacted most attentively to a rebound and gave Bayern a comfortable 0-3 lead twenty minutes before the end. In the final phase, the attention on the side of Bayern slackened and Werder was given the opportunity to put the goal of honor on the board. Manuel Neuer initially had an answer to a shot from Milot Rashica, but had no chance on the rebound of Niclas Füllkrug, who put the 1-3 final score on the board.

VfL Wolfsburg – Schalke 04 5-0
Weghorst had a basic place at Wolfsburg, while Jeffrey Bruma, who this season, partly due to injuries, did not play a league game yet, was on the bench. Schalke had to do without the injured Klaas-Jan Huntelaar. That snap sit in the corner where the blows fall and that was once again apparent from the crazy way in which the 1-0 came about. Malick Thiaw did not get the ball out of the penalty area, after which Shkodran Mustafi inadvertently headed the doctrine behind goalkeeper Frederik Rönnow.

Five minutes after the break, Weghorst saw a header goal disallowed due to a foul in the run-up, but less than a minute later, the Wolfsburg center forward scored a valid goal. Weghorst was cleverly put away by Bote Baku and scored effectively with the left: 2-0. Shortly afterwards, the roles were reversed: Weghorst intercepted the ball in the build-up and served Baku, who could finish it in complete freedom: 3-0. Weghorst then also provided the assist with the 4-0, by accepting the ball on the chest and placing it wide on Josip Brekalo, who found the far corner from within the sixteen: 4-0. In the final phase, Jerome Roussillon put the ball from the back line ready for Maximilian Philipp: 5-0.

1. FSV Mainz 05 – SC Freiburg 1-0
In a not very uplifting game, the best chances were for the home team in the first half. After just three minutes, Ádám Szalai had the opportunity to open the score, when he was given all the time and space to lash out, but the ball shot straight into Florian Muller’s hands. Danny da Costa also got the chance to shoot Mainz in the lead, but hit the bar with a nice attempt after half an hour of play. In the second half, Freiburg performed better and saw the team land a free kick on the crossbar via Roland Sallai. In the final phase, a Mainz offensive led to the victory after all, when Robin Quaison got a rebound and easily put the 1-0 on the board. Jerry St. Juste and Jean-Paul Boëtius played the entire game on behalf of Mainz, while Guus Til stayed on the bench at Freiburg

1. FC Union Berlin – 1. FC Köln 1-1
The surprisingly strong Union Berlin immediately took the initiative in the initial phase of the duel with Köln and was given the opportunity to score the opening goal early in the game via Grischa Prömel and Petar Musa, but both were unhappy in the completion and stranded goalkeeper Timo Horn. Köln then got into the game better and created some good opportunities, before taking the lead in injury time in the first half. Referee Deniz Aytekin was inexorable after a foul by Robin Knoche, after which Ondrej Duda took advantage of the opportunity and left goalkeeper Andreas Luthe without a chance: 0-1.

For a long time, however, the visitors could not enjoy the lead. After four minutes in the second half, Aytekin pointed to the spot for the second time, this time after an unfortunate handball from Marius Wolf. Max Kruse stayed cool and put the home team on the same level: 1-1. Union then took the game and took the lead twenty minutes before time. Crhistopher Trimmel received the ball on the right side of the penalty area from Julian Ryerson, after which he had all the time and space to lash out and hit diagonally: 2-1. Kingsley Ehizibue came on the line at Köln ten minutes before time.
