Bas Nijhuis proposed to his girlfriend Chantal Koebrugge live on Thursday afternoon on the Veronica Inside broadcast on Radio Veronica. The referee lured his girlfriend by helicopter to the radio studio, in the garden of Slot Zeist, and got down on one knee. Koebrugge said ‘yes’.
From the studio, presenter Wilfred Genee, sidekick Niels van Baarlen and newsreaders Florentien van der Meulen watched the marriage proposal live. They saw Nijhuis’s girlfriend arrive by helicopter, after which Nijhuis spoke to her: “I know: you don’t like this at all. You think it’s really terrible. But otherwise I would never get you here. I’m crazy about you and that’s why I want to also ask you: will you marry me?” Koebrugge responded without hesitation: “Yes.”
The marriage proposal was probably not a big surprise for Koebrugge. Earlier this summer, Genee said on a broadcast of Veronica Inside already that he had contact with Koebrugge via WhatsApp about a marriage. “She wants to. But it has to be from the heart. We can’t push it too much, it has to come from your heart, she said.” Nijhuis can be heard daily during the European Championship as a sidekick of presenter Wilfred Genee in the radio program,
