Bas Dost did not see a departure from Club Brugge last summer. The 32-year-old striker has been linked with Feyenoord, which has been looking for offensive reinforcements throughout the transfer window. However, Dost was very keen to continue his employment at Club Brugge successfully.

“I was here just six months,” he explains in conversation with The last news. “I’ve turned my whole life upside down to come here, only to say after six months, ‘I’m leaving again…’?” Dost came over from Eintracht Frankfurt in the winter transfer period of last season. In his first half season, the Dutchman scored 10 goals in 21 games. “In my view, those are okay statistics,” he says. “It could be better, yes, but those figures are just fine. I was also hungry. Because I have the feeling that it can be much better. So no, leaving in August was not an option for me.”

Dost has had a good week. In the cup match against KMSK Deinze, he was accurate twice on Wednesday, after which he scored as many goals in the league match against Sint-Truiden (3-0). Dost had a basic place in the competition for the first time since the season overture on July 25. It is currently the question whether his good week is enough for a basic place in the Champions League game against Manchester City on Wednesday evening. At talk show Extra Time is not taken into account.

“It’s a kind of Ruud Vormer story,” analyst Francky Van der Elst said in the program on Monday evening. “When Vormer scored twice against KV Kortrijk, it was also suggested that he should start against Manchester City, but he was still on the bench. I think that will also happen here.” Peter Vandenbempt would understand a spare role for Dost. “It is a completely different game in which they will not get much of the ball. And they will mainly have to counteract.”
