Bart Nieuwkoop continues his career at the Belgian Union Saint-Gilles, knows Football International to reveal. The right back of Feyenoord signs a three-year contract with his new employer, provided that the medical examination goes according to plan. Union Sint-Gillis will play at the highest level in Belgium next season, after the title in the Second Division of this year. Nieuwkoop has an expiring contract in De Kuip.

Nieuwkoop has waited a long time for an offer from the Feyenoord management. However, a concrete offer was not forthcoming, as a result of which agent Ali Dursun went looking for a new club for the 25-year-old fullback. There appeared to be sufficient interest in Nieuwkoop and it is Union Sint-Gillis that ultimately wins the game. The Belgian clubs have a rich past and have the most national titles after Anderlecht and Club Brugge: eleven. Because of the title, they play on the second level after the summer break in the Pro League.

Nieuwkoop, who left Feyenoord, never managed to secure a permanent place in Rotterdam-South, partly due to the various injuries in recent years. At the beginning of this season he got a basic place from trainer Dick Advocaat. However, after yet another injury, his place on the right back position was taken by Lutsharel Geertruida. In addition, with Denzel Hall, Feyenoord has a player for the future in that position. A few months ago, the nineteen-year-old defender extended his contract until mid-2024.

Nieuwkoop leaves Feyenoord with a total of four prizes to his name: the national title, twice the TOTO KNVB Cup and the Johan Cruijff Shield. The right-footed defender, leased to Willem II last season, scored 81 goals in his years as a Feyenoord player. This season he was used by Advocaat in nineteen games in all competitions.
