Barcelona wants to strengthen itself in the winter transfer period with Dani Olmo. According to the Spanish journalist Oriol Domènech, the Catalans have sixty million euros to spend in January and the arrows are aimed at the Spaniard in the service of RB Leipzig. Olmo would also like to return to the club where he played in the youth academy from 2007 to 2014.

In a television broadcast of TV3 Domènech said that the club management wants to strengthen the selection of coach Ronald Koeman in the coming transfer period with the attacking midfielder annex winger. The news is striking, as Barcelona is in financial trouble. In the past transfer period, it had to say goodbye to a number of players, including Lionel Messi.

Despite the financial problems, sixty million euros would still be available to provide the selection of Koeman with a quality injection. Olmo, whose contract with Leipzig runs until the summer of 2024, is said to be interested in a return to Barcelona. Domènech emphasizes in the broadcast that attracting the 23-year-old Spanish international will not be an easy task.

Barcelona would also have been interested in Olmo in the past transfer period. Just before the closing of the transfer window, the Spanish top club would have attempted to release him. “Barcelona? I am now focused on Leipzig. I’m fine here. There was not even time to think about a transfer, it all went very quickly,” Olmo said on Friday Süddeutsche Zeitung.

Olmo entered the youth academy of Barcelona at a young age. At the age of sixteen, he opted for a striking move to Dinamo Zagreb, where he had his big break. In 2020, RB Leipzig paid him a transfer fee of 22 million euros. He quickly became a fixture in the Bundesliga and was active on behalf of Spain at the European Championship and the Olympic Games last summer.
