Ansu Fati will also be retained for Barcelona in the coming years, the Catalan club announced on Wednesday evening through the official channels. The attacker has signed a new contract that will keep him on board until 2027. Like Pedri, Fati also gets a buyout clause of one billion euros in his contract. Both parties had been negotiating a new agreement for some time.

Mundo Deportivo already reported on Tuesday an agreement in principle between Barcelona and Fati’s agent Jorge Mendes about the new contract to be signed. With this Barcelona strikes an important blow, because Fati was in possession of an expiring contract and was coveted by the necessary European superpowers. Trainer Ronald Koeman said on Tuesday at the press conference in the run-up to the Champions League match with Dynamo Kiev (1-0) that Fati’s contract extension was ‘close’ and he called it ‘important news’.

Although Fati according to Mundo Deportivo had to choose the clubs, the four-time Spanish international consciously opts for a longer stay at Barcelona. Fati has only just returned from a serious knee injury that kept him sidelined for almost a year. The wing striker made an impression last Sunday by scoring a nice goal against Valencia (3-1 win). Against Kiev he got some rest from Koeman and started on the bench. Halfway through the game that was won 1-0, he came in for Luuk de Jong.

Fati was admitted to the youth academy by Barcelona at the age of ten. The attacker broke through in the first team in 2019 at the age of sixteen and made an impression from the first moment. He became both the youngest ever goalscorer and starting debutant for Barcelona in the competition. He also holds the record for youngest goalscorer in the Champions League. Fati is now on 47 official appearances for Barcelona, in which he recorded 15 goals and 5 assists.
