It was initially reported that Roberto would not hand in any money, but had agreed to a 40 percent deferral of his salary. RAC1 However, now reports that the ten-time Spanish international is indeed giving up salary and will earn 35 percent less. This salary reduction is not only settled on his fixed salary, but especially on the bonuses that he could expect.
Roberto – who was taken away from Nástic in 2006 at the age of 14 and has now made 307 official appearances for Barcelona – is the fourth captain to hand in money after Pique, Alba and Busquets. As is well known, Barcelona is in enormous financial trouble and that is why President Joan Laporta has met with the captains from the selection. Pique was the first to gesture towards Barcelona. It was subsequently announced that Alba had agreed to a 25 percent reduction in his salary and would also receive 60 percent of his salary deferred. The same arrangement was agreed with Busquets.
