Barcelona will have to save two hundred million euros in wage costs to be able to get new players again. This was announced by LaLiga president Javier Tebas last Monday. It is no longer a secret that it is financially important los Azulgrana quite messy. By the words of Tebas, attracting new players for Barcelona seems to be a hell of a job.

Barça has been under a magnifying glass for a long time because of, among other things, the financial techniques with which players were attracted and registered in the past. For example, the club decided to sell part of production company Barça Studios and percentages of the television rights were also sold. Almost all selection players were also asked to make salary sacrifices.

The financial tricks that ensured that Barcelona could still attract players are now a thing of the past, according to Tebas. “Those were one-off levers to be able to make this season’s expenses, but not next season’s. Barcelona needs to increase the revenue stream and if that doesn’t work, money needs to be saved. Or a combination of both,” says Tebas.

Only if the club can save two hundred million on wage costs will it be possible to make incoming transfers. Tebas reported this last Monday at the presentation of the salary cap for all Spanish football clubs. Meanwhile, with the ‘Negreira case’, another scandal has appeared on the horizon of Barcelona and the Spanish Public Prosecution Service is investigating this corruption scandal.

According to Mundo Deportivo the Catalans paid no less than six million euros to a company owned by José María Enríquez Negreira, former referee and vice-chairman of the referee committee of the Spanish federation RFEF. The ex-referee continued to be paid by Barcelona when he had already left the refereeing committee. Enríquez Negreira threatened to blow the whistle over the scandal.
