Victor Valdés returns to Barcelona, so you know Sport to report. The 39-year-old former goalkeeper will be given a position within the youth academy of the Catalans, where he will train the young keepers. Valdés already worked as a youth coach at Barcelona in 2019, but left at the time after a series of incidents and a blazing fight with head of youth training Patrick Kluivert.

Valdés had been in charge of Barcelona Under-19 for a number of months from the summer of 2019. He caused a sensation by leaving during the Otten Cup, a youth tournament organized by PSV, despite his team still having to play the consolation final. Valdés was then sent to the stands in the first league game of the season due to comments made to the referee. After a big fight with Patrick Kluivert, Valdés was already expelled after a few months.

Valdés made it clear to Kluivert that he thought he was a ‘tactical ignorant’, after which the conversation got completely out of hand. Kluivert is now in his final months at Barcelona as head of youth education, paving the way for a return of Valdés. The former goalkeeper, who was trained by Barcelona and was under the bar between 2002 and 2014, was instrumental in Joan Laporta’s election campaign. It quickly became clear that Valdés would return to Barcelona if Laporta were elected.

Initially, Valdés would have ignored Laporta’s offer, because he had set his sights on a position as coach of a youth team. Ultimately, the former goalkeeper has now decided to take care of the keepers within the youth academy from next season. Valdés must return to Barcelona by June.
