Xavi succeeds Ronald Koeman as Barcelona coach, reports Sport. According to the Spanish sports newspaper, the trainer of Al-Sadd has reached an agreement with the Catalan club management about a multi-year contract. Barcelona is expected to announce the arrival of Xavi ‘within hours’.
Sport reports based on sources close to the negotiations that the club and trainer agree on the personal conditions. Immediately after Koeman’s dismissal on Wednesday evening, the club management turned to Xavi. The former Barcelona midfielder must ensure better times at the Camp Nou. Spanish media report that Barcelona wants to make the appointment of Xavi official on Thursday. however, it is unknown when he will start working at his new employer.
Barcelona must now reach an agreement with Al-Sadd on the surrender of Xavi’s contract, which runs until mid-2023. According to reports, the trainer has a lump sum of one million euros. Xavi is bringing his own coaching staff to Barcelona. He takes his brother Óscar and Sergio Alegre with him as assistant trainers and Iván Torres as physical trainer.
Barcelona has not yet made any announcements about Koeman’s technical staff. Since the club has agreed to allow Xavi to bring his own staff, assistants Alfred Schreuder and Henrik Larsson also seem to have to reckon with the dismissal.
