Lorenzo Insigne has received a warning ahead of his potential transfer to the MLS. The Napoli attacker is in the strong interest of Toronto FC, where he can earn no less than eleven million euros per year. However, Sebastian Giovinco reminds his compatriot that in many cases it is not as beautiful as it seems. The latter made the switch from Juventus to Toronto in 2015 for a lot of money.

Toronto plans to make Insigne the highest-paid player in the roster. The Canadian club has a five-and-a-half-year contract ready for the Italian, who will run out of his contract with Napoli at the end of the season. Giovinco warns Insigne not to act on an unrealistic dream in Canada, but admits he wouldn’t have changed the way his own career has progressed. “I can say that when I arrived in 2015, I was promised seas and mountains that were not there in reality,” Giovinco told Corriere dello Sport.

“I don’t want to go into details,” Giovinco continues. The attacker eventually played for the Canadian formation from 2015 to 2019 and became the club’s top scorer of all time with 83 goals. “It depends on what you want. Personally, I felt comfortable in Toronto. It’s a city where life is very easy. Professionally, you run the risk of disappearing from the radar. I lost sight of the national team. If you’re willing to give up those things, it’s an experience I recommend to everyone.”

Insignia could also possibly get out of the picture with the national team of Italy in the run-up to the World Cup in Qatar. Giovinco is nevertheless convinced that Toronto will succeed in recruiting the attacker. “They are sure it will work. On the other hand, it seems strange to me if it happened, since he is captain of Napoli. I don’t think he will leave a team that is fighting for the title. Or I regret of my choice? No. In the end I made more goals and assists than played games. I can look back on it with a good feeling and I’m glad I took the step at the time.”
