FC Groningen seems to be able to lose Azor Matusiwa in the last days of the transfer window. Football International reports Friday evening that Stade Reims has reported to Groningen for the 23-year-old midfielder. The current number twelve of Ligue 1 has already strengthened itself in this transfer window with Mitchell van Bergen, who will be taken over from sc Heerenveen for two million euros.

Matusiwa showed up last week Football International that it was ‘very quiet’ around him. “Perhaps surprisingly, yes. You can see that the market is slowly starting, there is also much less money as a result of corona. You see it not only with me, but also with someone like Joey Veerman,” said the midfielder. “If something else comes, I will think about it calmly. If it stays calm, I will happily stay at FC Groningen. I’m having a good time.”

Now Matusiwa can still make a nice transfer at the end of the transfer window, as Stade Reims has reported to FC Groningen. A year ago, Matusiwa was also close to a transfer to Ligue 1, when FC Metz was in the market for him. At the time, it did not come from a departure, but with Laros Duarte from Sparta Rotterdam, FC Groningen already has a possible successor for Matusiwa in its sights.

Matusiwa played in the youth academy of Almere City and Ajax, before he ended up at FC Groningen in 2019 after a rental period at De Graafschap. Since then, he has played exactly fifty official matches for FC Groningen. His contract will continue until mid-2023. FC Groningen must also fear the departure of Ahmed El Messaoudi and Jørgen Strand Larsen in the final phase of the transfer window, while Gabriel Gudmundsson is in the concrete interest of Lille OSC.
