Atlético Madrid officially said goodbye to Álvaro Morata who left for Juventus on Tuesday and it promises to be a busy final phase of the transfer period for los Colchoneros. The arrival of Luis Suárez as a replacement for Morata seems only a matter of time and the Madrid people, according to reports from Spain, will then focus entirely on taking over Lucas Torreira from Arsenal.

It is according to, among others ASH and Mundo Deportivo the intention is that a midfielder from Uruguay will initially come to the Wanda Metropolitano on a rental basis. Atlético has been targeting Torreira for a long time and he can now leave Arsenal to apparently make room for Houssem Aouar. Before Torreira can be taken over, Atlético also has to let a player leave and it seems that Héctor Herrera has been declared redundant.

The Mexican came over from FC Porto on a transfer-free basis a year ago, but has failed to fully convince trainer Diego Simeone. To be able to pay Torreira, Herrera’s salary will first have to be deleted from the books and a return to os Dragões is mentioned as one of the options.

In addition to Herrera, Santiago Arias also faces a departure from Madrid. The former PSV player makes the switch to Peter Bosz’s Bayer Leverkusen on a rental basis, which also has an option to finalize the deal. Diego Costa and Thomas Lemar may also make transfers in the next two weeks. However, it will be difficult for Atlético to find a suitable destination for Lemar, for whom seventy million euros were paid two years ago.
