Antoine Griezmann has been given a two-game suspension for the red card he received against Liverpool (2-3 loss). Atletico Madrid are outraged by UEFA’s decision, which remarkably only made its decision nearly two months after the offence. The Spanish top club disagrees with the decision in any case and now has little time to appeal.

Griezmann brought his team back from 0-2 behind on October 19 with two goals, but had to leave the field shortly after the break. The thirty-year-old attacker came into Roberto Firmino with a high leg and hit the Brazilian hard in the neck. Pending the verdict, Griezmann then had to miss the return in the Champions League at Anfield (2-0 loss). Only now has Atlético been told that Griezmann will also not be available against AC Milan in exactly one week.

Atlético is outraged about the red card and points to ASH to a similar offense by Zlatan Ibrahimovic. The forty-year-old AC Milan striker got away with a yellow card against FC Porto after going hard on Chancel Mbemba. The defender of Porto was hit on the head by Ibrahimovic with the tip of the shoe. “Identical, but without a two-game suspension”, that is the objection of Atlético.

The Madrilenians are hopeful that Griezmann’s suspension will be withdrawn on appeal. Earlier this Champions League campaign saw Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s appeal suspension reduced from two to one after the Manchester United right-back was ejected from the field against Young Boys. Incidentally, Atlético has been told that Felipe has also been suspended for two games. The Brazilian was shown red for a tackle on Sadio Mane in the away game against Liverpool. Atlético is still looking at whether it makes sense for Felipe to appeal.
