Jerdy Schouten may make the switch to Atalanta, writes La Gazzetta dello Sport Saturday. According to the Italian sports newspaper, the Bologna midfielder is in the picture in Bergamo as the stand-in of another Dutchman: Marten de Roon. In addition to De Roon, Atalanta has three Dutchmen under contract: Hans Hateboer, Robin Gosens (who has both a German and a Dutch passport, ed.) And Sam Lammers.

Atalanta is working behind the scenes to give the selection of Gian Piero Gasperini new impetus. The interest in Schouten has reportedly been playing for several months and will undoubtedly have taken on more concrete forms when it became clear that De Roon will have to miss the first four league matches of the new season. He pushed the arbiter on the final day of Serie A and the Italian Football Association was relentless.

Schouten, 24, made the surprising switch from Excelsior to Bologna two years ago. In his first year he still fluctuated between the bench and the basis and he came to twenty duels in all competition. In the past football year, Schouten was on the field in no fewer than 35 matches, of which 28 as basic strength. Bologna is allegedly demanding an amount of twelve million euros for the ex-player of Telstar and ADO Den Haag. After all, the contractual cooperation will continue for three more seasons.

Atalanta was also interested in Schouten two years ago, but Bologna eventually won the battle for his signature. The interest from Atalanta does not necessarily seem to indicate that there is currently concrete interest from larger clubs for De Roon. According to the sports newspaper, Calvin Stengs from AZ is also in the picture at Atalanta, but there is no concrete interest. Lammers will likely leave Atalanta on a rental basis. Bologna is one of the clubs that has been mentioned before.
